My first observatory was a converted Suncast storage shed. http://www.suncast.com/productdisplay.aspx?id=222&pid=55 The catches that snap the roof to the walls were ground off so the roof could be removed, when the observatory was closed, the roof was secured with 3 bar clamps. The shed was placed in the corner of my deck, and the walls were attached to the deck rail, also inside bracing was needed. As my scopes grew in size, things became very cramped. I mostly image with my setup, visual use was next to impossible. This setup was very convenient, but had its drawbacks. The walls limited my horizon; the dew shield would hit nearing the lower regions. The biggest limitation was the location on the deck. I could only image west of the meridian, the house blocked the east. |
